The Great Gatsby, written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald, is one of the greatest pieces of literature of all time. In his book, the writer reflects the cultural distinction between the upper and lower class during the 1920’s in America and the disintegration of the American dream in an era of unprecedented prosperity and material excess.

Despite Fitzgerald’s belief that his work represented, in his words, ‘something new – something extraordinary and beautiful and simple and intricately patterned’, the novel was poorly received and he died in 1940 still convinced his work would be forgotten. But against all expectations, ‘The Great Gatsby’ experienced a revival during WWII and has since then been adapted several times in various media.




Gatsby’s parties are known for being incredibly luxurious – Every weekend, his gigantic Long Island mansion welcomes thousands of guests who can marvel over his breath-taking receptions where food and spirit flow freely. Gatsby knows how to stun his guests and always provides the most magnificent entertainment involving live orchestras, dancers and aerialist to name but a few.

Fitzgerald certainly would never have guessed that his character would become such a reference. Due to a growing interest in the era of Prohibition, speakeasies and Gatsby-themed parties have become outrageously trendy. But there are a few rules when it comes to organising a Gatsby party. First you need Champagne (a lot!); second you need a great band (you want your guests to dance and enjoy themselves, right?) and last but not least, you need a few cutting edge acts that will add an element of surprise to the night (think acrobats, contortionists, aerials, Martini glass and Charleston dancers, fire breathers or even stilt walkers).
